A steam room in a UAE villa is a construction job: a sealed, tiled room and an electric generator sized to it. That makes it easy to compare badly, because two installers rarely quote the same room. How much does a steam room cost in the UAE?
A built steam room costs from AED 25,000 in the UAE for a compact room or a steam shower. A dedicated steam room starts at AED 50,000, and a full marble custom steam room can exceed AED 300,000. Most of the spread between AED 25,000 and AED 300,000 sits in the room: its size, stone or tile, the bench and the lighting. The generator alone costs from AED 604. An offer that names a generator without its kW, or a finish without the material, cannot be set against any other, so every offer we bring you states both.
What size generator does a steam room need?
Generators are sized by the room's volume, like sauna heaters, and we ask every installer how they sized yours. Harvia's Helix range is the clearest example: the HGX45 is 4.5 kW for a steam room of 2 to 7 m³, and the HGX90 is 9 kW for 3 to 17 m³ and produces 12 kg of steam an hour. Harvia's pages give one volume range per model and no separate figure for heavy tiled or stone rooms, which is exactly why the sizing belongs in the offer.

Wiring we raise with every installer
DEWA's Regulations for Electrical Installations name saunas, Jacuzzis and water heaters: each goes on its own final sub-circuit from the distribution board, control gear for a sauna sits outside the room, and heater circuits carry 30 mA protection. Steam generators are not named. We treat a 4.5 kW generator on a 25 A fuse as a dedicated-circuit load and ask for one in every offer. Regulation 1.14 adds that no alteration to the installation is made without DEWA's prior approval, filed online by a DEWA-enrolled consultant or contractor at no fee.
In Abu Dhabi, a load increase above 10% of the property's connected load needs the distribution company's approval, and only licensed contractors may do the work. Tell us the emirate and the offers you get account for it.
Can an apartment have a steam room?
Usually as a steam shower, rarely as a separate room. Emaar does not allow structural works or the removal, relocation or coverage of MEP systems in apartments. In Town Square, Nshama's manuals make bathtub conversion and wet-area tile replacement townhouse-only, which rules out turning a bath into a steam shower in a Town Square apartment. Dubai Holding Community Management requires an application before any installation in a unit. The least invasive option is a Harvia steam shower column with a 2 kW generator built in, at AED 12,952; it still needs a suitable shower and a circuit, and we can get you offers on it.
What does a steam room cost to run?
A worked example, not a bill: a 4.5 kW generator at full output for one hour costs AED 1.37 at DEWA's lowest slab and AED 2.08 at the highest, using October 2026 rates with the 6 fils fuel surcharge and 5% VAT. A 6 kW sauna heater on the same basis costs AED 1.83 to AED 2.77 an hour. The running costs page has the same sums for every emirate.
Steam room or sauna
Steam is wet heat in a sealed room; a sauna is dry heat with a burst of steam when water hits the stones. They cost different amounts to build and suit different rooms, and the side-by-side comparison sets them out row by row. - NHS guidance on pregnancy notes there is little research on saunas, hot tubs and steam rooms and that you may choose to avoid them because of the risks of overheating, dehydration and fainting. Harvard Health says people with unstable chest pain (angina), poorly controlled high blood pressure or other serious heart issues should avoid hot baths and saunas, and to avoid alcohol before and after. With Raynaud's, the NHS advises avoiding sudden changes in temperature.
