Worked example: a 1 HP chiller rated at 1,100 W uses 1.1 kWh in a running hour, so it costs 1.1 x AED 0.28 = AED 0.308 at the lowest slab and 1.1 x AED 0.43 = AED 0.473 at the highest. A 9 kW sauna heater at full output costs AED 2.52 to 3.87 an hour. The tariff page shows no VAT line, so these exclude it. Dubai's DEWA uses the same four slabs with a 6 fils fuel surcharge for October 2026 and 5% VAT; the running costs page compares the two. In Sharjah, next door, SEWA supplies the power instead.
Wiring rules in Ajman
Ajman follows the federal wiring rulebook, not DEWA's, and every offer we bring you is planned around it:
- Pools and plunge pools. Etihad Water and Electricity's wiring regulation puts every final circuit at a pool on a 10 mA ELCB or RCD.
- Saunas. No socket outlets inside a sauna room and light switches outside it. The rulebook sets no specific RCD requirement for sauna equipment.
- Design climate. The same rulebook designs equipment for 50°C outdoor ambient in the shade, two degrees above DEWA's 48°C in Dubai.
- Abu Dhabi, by contrast. Pool pumps and jacuzzis there take 30 mA, and a load rise above 10 percent needs the distribution company's approval.
A 9 kW heater draws about 39 A on single phase, or 3 x 16 A on a three-phase supply, so the circuit is sized before the heater is chosen. Etihad Water and Electricity is also named among the required approvals on Ajman Municipality's permit services, and we confirm its sign-off on any added load for each job.
The Ajman permits that can apply
Ajman Municipality's maintenance permit is open to contracting companies and to individuals, at a published fee of AED 1,000 and a stated time of 2 days. Its swimming pool approval, AED 500 and 3 days with a lifeguard certificate, is for pools in public places and facilities, so it does not describe a villa plunge pool. A built-in plunge pool at a home is confirmed with the Municipality for each job; for a free-standing tub or sauna cabin, the circuit is the first thing we ask about.
How hot does Ajman get for a chiller?
The National Centre of Meteorology's Ajman station (2013 to 2025) averages a 40.7°C daily high in August, with a highest reading of 48.1°C, and the August nights average 32.3°C, warmer than Dubai airport's 30.9°C. Active Aqua measures its chiller output at 36°C and approves its units for indoor use only; Plunge's Pro Chiller Gen 2 states it holds 3°C in 49°C ambient. The NHS advises people with Raynaud's to avoid sudden changes in temperature.
