The checks

Choose a home sauna: the seven checks

To choose a home sauna in the UAE, settle seven things in order: the kind of heat, the room's volume, the heater, the circuit, where it stands, who must approve it, and whether the price and the offer hold up. The first four decide which cabins are even possible. Send us your answers and we get you offers on a sauna that passes all seven, from suppliers who compete for your job.

Which home sauna is best for a UAE home?

For an apartment, usually a two-person infrared cabin: it starts at AED 13,999, Harvia says its infrared cabins plug into a regular 230 V socket, and it needs only a dry room with 5 cm of space around it. For a villa that wants hot air and steam from the stones, a traditional cabin from AED 16,950 with a heater sized to the room, on its own circuit under DEWA's rules. The home saunas page lists every size with its price.

Check 1: which heat suits you, infrared or traditional?

An infrared cabin warms you with panels and has no stones, so there is no steam; Harvia lists 20 to 70°C for its one-person Onni Sienna. A traditional cabin heats the air with a stove and gives steam when water hits the stones. Infrared draws about 2 kW (2,105 W for Harvia's two-person Spectrum); the smallest heater in Harvia's Vega sizing table, for 3 to 6 m³, is 4.5 kW. The choice sets the budget, the wiring and the rooms you can use, so make it first. The infrared vs traditional comparison sets them side by side.

Checks 2 and 3: will the room and the heater match?

Multiply length, width and height. A stove heater is sized to that volume, not to the number of people: Harvia's Vega range runs 4.5 kW for 3 to 6 m³, 6 kW for 5 to 8 m³ and 9 kW for 8 to 14 m³. Then measure the height. The BC60 datasheet asks for a room at least 1,900 mm high with 1,100 mm of clear space above the heater, which a dropped gypsum ceiling in an apartment can fail. The Dubai Building Code (H.4.16.5) requires heaters to be installed to UL 875 and the manufacturer's instructions, so those clearances are not optional in Dubai.

Check 4: can the electrics carry a home sauna?

DEWA Regulation 4.6.5 puts a sauna on a separate final sub-circuit from the distribution board, with the control gear outside the cabin and 30 mA protection on heater circuits. At 230 V a 4.5 kW heater draws about 20 A, a 6 kW about 26 A and a 9 kW about 39 A. Regulation 1.14 requires DEWA's prior approval for any alteration, and an added-load application is filed online by a DEWA-enrolled consultant or contractor. Harvia says its infrared cabins need only a household socket; DEWA's rule does not say whether a plug-in infrared cabin counts as a sauna, so an electrician confirms it per home. The UAE supply is 230 V at 50 Hz, so a cabin built for the US market needs its UAE variant's spec sheet.

Checks 5 and 6: where will it stand, and who must approve it?

Indoors, Harvia's infrared guidance is a dry room with 5 cm of space around the cabin and no humid or wet areas. Outdoors, plan for heat: DEWA designs Dubai's electrical installations for 48°C in the shade, outdoor sockets and switches must be IP55, and a cabin in shade keeps its controls out of direct sun. The outdoor saunas page covers garden builds.

Approval comes next. Dubai Holding Community Management's 2026 rules require an application before installing anything on a plot or in a unit, internal or external, and written approval for any balcony alteration. Emaar requires approval for any villa alteration, and in Emaar apartments structural works and the removal or coverage of MEP systems are not permitted. A sauna is not on Emaar's published no-NOC list, so we ask the community before a delivery date is set.

Check 7: are the price and the offer right?

Hold the price against the bands on sauna prices: two-person infrared cabins typically AED 14,499 to 17,950, traditional cabins AED 21,000 to 25,500, outdoor cabins AED 23,500 to 32,500. Then read the offer for five things: the heater model and kW against your room volume, whether delivery and installation are included, the electrical work and who files with DEWA, who gets the community approval, and VAT, which UAE sauna prices rarely state. Every offer we bring you lists all five. Already holding a quote? Send it to us and we tell you if it is a good price. Free.

Is a home sauna worth it?

On cost, compare the cabin with sessions. Dubai studios charge from AED 150 for a single infrared session and AED 80 for 20 minutes of sauna, against AED 13,999 for the cheapest two-person cabin; saunas in Dubai lists them. Running a 6 kW heater at full output costs AED 1.83 to AED 2.77 an hour at DEWA's October 2026 rates, as a worked example.

On health, we make no claims, and the research is limited. The best-known study followed 2,315 Finnish men for a median of 20.7 years and found that those using a sauna 4 to 7 times a week had a lower risk of sudden cardiac death than once-a-week users, an association from an observational study (Laukkanen 2015). A 2018 systematic review of 40 studies concluded that more data of higher quality is needed (Hussain and Cohen, 2018 review). If a cold plunge will follow the sauna, start at cold plunge Dubai.

Before you buy

  1. Measure the room and write down the volume in m³ and the ceiling height.
  2. Photograph the distribution board and note whether the home has a three-phase supply.
  3. Note the community or building, so the approval question can be asked in writing.
  4. Send all three to us and we get you offers that fit them.

Questions

Common questions when choosing a sauna

Can you get me offers on a home sauna?
Yes, free. Send us the room and your budget on WhatsApp and we reply within 5 minutes. Suppliers compete for your job, we tell you which offer is the best deal, and the supplier pays us when you buy. You pay the supplier's own price with nothing added by us.
Which sauna is best for home use?
In an apartment, usually a two-person infrared cabin from AED 13,999: it needs a dry room and, by Harvia's account, a household socket. In a villa with space for a circuit, a traditional cabin from AED 16,950 gives hot air and steam from the stones.
Is a home sauna worth it?
On cost, set the AED 13,999 entry price against Dubai studio sessions at, for example, AED 80 for 20 minutes or AED 195 for 30 minutes. On health, the research is mostly observational and we make no claims; see the studies linked above.
What size sauna do two people need?
Two-person infrared cabins start at AED 13,999. For a stove cabin, size the heater to the room volume rather than to the seats.
Do I need an electrician for a home sauna?
For a stove heater, yes: DEWA requires a separate final sub-circuit with the control gear outside the cabin. For an infrared cabin Harvia says no special wiring is needed, but DEWA does not say whether a plug-in cabin counts as a sauna, so an electrician confirms the circuit.
How long does delivery take?
It varies by supplier, and some promise delivery and installation within four weeks of order. Every offer we bring you states the lead time.
Who should check with a doctor before using a sauna?
Harvard Health says people with unstable chest pain (angina), poorly controlled high blood pressure or other serious heart issues should avoid saunas, advises 15 to 20 minutes at most and no alcohol before or after. NHS guidance on pregnancy notes you may choose to avoid saunas because of the risks of overheating, dehydration and fainting. With Raynaud's, the NHS advises avoiding sudden changes in temperature.
