Banya Dubai: three venues and their prices

A banya is a Russian or Slavic bathhouse built around wet steam, a whisking ritual and a cold plunge between rounds. Three banya Dubai venues list one on their own websites: on Bluewaters Island, on Palm Jumeirah and in Jumeirah 1, none of them selling equipment. When you want a banya-style room at home, send us one message and we reply within 5 minutes with offers from UAE installers who compete for your job. Free for you.

Where can you go to a banya in Dubai?

Three venues run a banya in Dubai: Banya Forrest on Bluewaters Island, a public Slavic banya from AED 300 for three hours; DUBANYA at Dukes The Palm on Palm Jumeirah, with three-hour sessions and no listed price; and La Villa Banya in Jumeirah 1, five private wood-fired bathhouses at AED 5,500 to 8,500 per two-and-a-half-hour session.

Banya Dubai prices: what does a session cost?

Two of the three list a price, and they sit at opposite ends. Banya Forrest's AED 300 covers three hours with the sauna, the plunge, the snow room, a locker, a restaurant table and a steam ceremony; its rituals start at AED 600. La Villa Banya rents a whole private bathhouse at AED 5,500 to 8,500 for a two-and-a-half-hour session, with a summer offer from AED 3,000; the price is per session for the whole bathhouse. DUBANYA lists no price; ask when you book.

For comparison, Dubai's recovery studios charge from AED 80 for 20 minutes of sauna, and AED 250 for an hour of sauna with an ice bath. Saunas in Dubai lists twenty venues with their prices.

What happens in a banya?

The pattern is heat, then cold, then rest, repeated. You sit in the steam room, then cool down in a plunge pool or, at Banya Forrest, a snow room, then rest before the next round. The ritual that sets a banya apart is the parenie: a banya master whisks and fans you with a venik, a bundle of leafy branches, in the steam. Banya Forrest and La Villa Banya both list parenie, and DUBANYA lists venik rituals.

The cold side is colder than most people expect. Banya Forrest lists a plunge at 6°C. Cleveland Clinic's guidance on cold plunges advises not going below 4°C, suggests 10 to 15°C as a safe starting range for beginners, and says a session should never go longer than five minutes. One Dubai ice bath studio runs plunge rooms at 1 to 13°C; Dubai ice baths lists them.

How is a banya different from a Finnish sauna?

Both use a stove and stones, and in both you throw water on the stones for steam. The banya leans on that steam: Banya Forrest describes its room as wet steam from a 20-ton stove. A Finnish sauna is drier air with bursts of steam. For scale, a home sauna heater for a room of 8 to 14 m³ is 9 kW in Harvia's Vega range. The steam room page explains the generator-driven wet heat you can build at home, which is a different machine again.

Want a banya-style room at home?

The closest home build is a custom sauna room with an electric heater sized to the room, where you throw water on the stones for steam. A custom sauna room costs AED 45,000 to 120,000 installed, prefab cabins with a stove heater start at AED 16,950, and a tiled steam room starts at AED 25,000. Send us the room and your budget and we reply within 5 minutes with offers from installers who compete for your job, with the heater sized and the circuit planned before you commit. It is free for you: the installer pays us when you sign, and you pay the installer's own price. A plunge next to it turns the set into a banya round; chillers sized for UAE summers are on the cold plunge Dubai page.

  • Heater: Harvia sizes its Vega heaters at 4.5 kW for 3 to 6 m³, 6 kW for 5 to 8 m³ and 9 kW for 8 to 14 m³.
  • Circuit: DEWA Regulation 4.6.5 puts a sauna on its own final sub-circuit, with the control gear outside the room.
  • Approval: DEWA's prior approval for any alteration, and the community's approval in most managed communities.

Harvard Health says people with unstable chest pain (angina), poorly controlled high blood pressure or other serious heart issues should avoid hot baths and saunas, and to avoid alcohol before and after. Cleveland Clinic lists heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and pregnancy among the reasons to talk to a provider before a cold plunge. With Raynaud's, the NHS advises avoiding sudden changes in temperature.
